Pineneedle art is one of the oldest crafts known. It dates back even before pottery.

The Seminole Indians were some of the first Indian tribes to make the pine needle baskets. They often used a sharp piece of sea shell or bone as a needle. Some of these pine needle baskets were even used to carry water!

During the time around the Civil War the women crafted hats made out of pine needles.
